Setting up Tempo Adjust in Safari

Safari extensions are off until you turn them on, and Tempo Adjust also needs permission to run on Bandcamp and Discogs. If the tempo controls don't appear, work through the steps for your device.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Settings app and go to Apps > Safari > Extensions. On iOS 17 it's Safari > Extensions.
  2. Tap Tempo Adjust and turn it on.
  3. On the same screen, tap Extension Settings. Tempo Adjust's setup page opens in Safari.
  4. Tap Allow, then Always Allow, so Tempo Adjust can run on bandcamp.com and discogs.com.

If you don't see Extension Settings, open Safari, tap the extensions menu in the address bar, then tap Tempo Adjust.

Mac

  1. Open Safari and go to Safari > Settings > Extensions.
  2. Check the box next to Tempo Adjust.
  3. Tempo Adjust's setup page opens in Safari. Click Allow, then Always Allow, so it can run on bandcamp.com and discogs.com.

If the setup page doesn't appear, click the Tempo Adjust icon in Safari's toolbar.

Common questions

The controls don't show up on a page

Tempo Adjust adds controls next to the player on Bandcamp album, track, wishlist, and collection pages, and next to the videos on Discogs release pages. Other pages on those sites don't have a player, so nothing is added. If a page does have a player and the controls are missing, reload the page once.

If they still don't appear, the extension probably doesn't have access to the site yet. On Chrome and Firefox, click the Tempo Adjust icon in your browser's extensions menu. Its settings page opens and, if any access is missing, shows an Allow button. Click it and reload the page. In Safari, work through the setup steps above.

One known limitation: Bandcamp lets artists and labels serve their page from their own domain, such as label.com instead of label.bandcamp.com. Tempo Adjust only runs on addresses ending in bandcamp.com, so it doesn't appear on those pages.

Why doesn't BPM detection work on Discogs?

Discogs plays music through embedded YouTube videos, and the extension can't read audio from those. BPM detection is only available on Bandcamp. The tempo slider works on both sites.

The tempo slider sounds glitchy

The slider changes the speed of the page's own player. Some browsers briefly stutter while the rate changes, especially in Safari. Letting go of the slider applies the new tempo cleanly.

Where is the purchase export?

Log in to Bandcamp, click your profile picture in the top right corner, and choose purchases from the menu. Tempo Adjust adds a summary of your spending and an export button at the top of that page. It only works on your own purchases page, since that's the only place Bandcamp lists them.

What do tips and donations unlock?

Nothing. Tips in the Safari app and donations from the Chrome and Firefox extensions are optional, and every feature is available without one. They only help keep the project going.

I installed Bandcamp Tempo Adjust on Chrome or Firefox, but I'm not seeing Tempo Adjust on Discogs

On Chrome and Firefox, Tempo Adjust is two separate extensions, one for each site. Bandcamp Tempo Adjust only runs on Bandcamp, and Discogs Tempo Adjust only runs on Discogs. Install the other one from the Tempo Adjust page. The Safari app covers both sites on its own.
